In 2025, the North Andover Democratic Town Committee introduced a set of core principles to guide our actions and articulate our beliefs. We think of it as a simple, flexible platform that can be easily communicated to generate positive and meaningful discussions. Our five principles are:
Equity
We believe that everyone should have a stake in the success of our community, our state, and our country. We do not consider wealth as an indication of worthiness. Every voice must be respected, and every tax dollar be treated as an investment in our collective future.
Opportunity
We believe that everyone should have access to advancement through public education and a thriving economy based on shared public and private investment. We believe that small businesses are the true indicators of the economic health of our country. Labor is to be respected and corporations regulated to ensure everyone’s long-term success.
Security
We believe that economic security is the foundation of a secure society. A living wage, affordable healthcare and housing, consumer protection, and community-supported policing are the best guarantees against rising crime rates and corresponding escalations in indiscriminate law enforcement.
Sustainability
We believe that existing systems must be reviewed regularly to ensure that they enhance the physical and economic health of the community, and that new solutions be evaluated to ensure that they do not prioritize short-term profit for a few over long-term return on the community’s investment.
Accountability
We believe that every individual and the representatives they elect is responsible for the success of our community, our state, and our country. Private businesses and public agencies must be responsive to the people they solicit, serve, and support. Every legislative action must include indicators of success to ensure that its impact can be measured and modified if necessary.
